Istanbul Ataturk Airport

Atatürk airport is located 24 km. west of downtown, with the qualifications of Cat II (category II) according to the classification made by International Aviation Association and despite the difficulties on meteorological conditions it is in a level in letting landing and take-off the airplanes. The tunnels, bridges and landing places will provide the passengers connect to domestic lines. In the domestic lines terminal there is 1 VIP and 1 CIP hall. Post office, ATMs, restaurant, café-bar, buffet, pastry shop, 8 several service stands and 3 car rental companies are among the facilities of the domestic lines terminal. The luggages are automatically addressed to the related flight by a barcode system. Furthermore if a passenger misses the plane the addressing of the luggage are prevented. The automatic optical readers transfer the luggage directly to the destination in flights having connections. There is a multistory parking lot with a capacity of 7000 vehicles.

 

Four times larger than the old international terminal building, the new terminal is one of just a few in the world to be controlled from a single computer center. There are 160 check-in desks, 64 passport control desks, 34 x-ray machines, 8 baggage turntables with a capacity of 10,000 pieces of luggage, 45 lifts, 21 escalators, and 1361 meters of moving walkways. The terminal incorporates special construction systems designed to withstand earthquakes of up to 8.5, and security systems are based on cutting edge technology to deal quickly and efficiently with terrorist attacks and every other emergency situation. The terminal is environmentally friendly, with a wastewater treatment system; LPG fuelled heating system etc.

On the Arrivals floor of the International Terminal there are 2 duty free shops while the Departures floor has 1duty free shop with an area of 1170 square meters, 3 last-minute duty free shops near the accordion bellows. The terminal also comprises Chocolate Corner, "House of Cigar", Delicatessen Shop, Shop-in Shop concept, "Golden Touch", "Kids Wonderworld", "Bally", "Vintage", "Bazaar" where original Turkish product are sold and "Palmers", Cartier, "Versace", "Silk & Cashmere", "Vakko", and "D&R". You can also enjoy a meal at restaurants serving Turkish and international cuisine.
