International Istanbul Music Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012. The Festival’s 40th edition will be held between May 31 and June 29, 2012 with the sponsorship of Borusan.
With two world and three Turkey premieres, the Festival will host more than 750 local and foreign artists and will present a month full of music. Hélène Grimaud, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Milos, Gidon Kremer, Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra are among the performers of this year’s festival. Along with concerts, the festival will also present talks, educational workshops and speeches.
Since 2011, the festival has started to build its program around a theme. The theme of this year’s Istanbul Music Festival will be “Hope and Heroes.” The festival program, as a result of an accurate repertory research, presents a range of specific works and special concert projects selected within the scope of two intertwined themes such as heroes and hope.
Aya Irini (Hagia Irene) Museum, Istanbul Archeological Museum, , Süreyya Opera House, Istanbul University Rectorate Building, Haliç Congress Center, Garden of the Netherlands Consulate General, Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall and Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center are the concerts venues of the Festival in 2012.
Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sache Goetzell will perform at the opening concert of the 39th International Istanbul Music Festival at Haliç Congress Center on Thursday, May 31. Vienna Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Stefan Vladar will take stage at Hagia Irene for the closing ceremony of the festival on June 29th.
