Since religious holidays are set by the Islamic calendar, the days vary each year.

August 7 (1/2 day), August 8, 9 and 10, 2013
Şeker Bayramı

Oct. 14(1/2 day), 15, 16, 17 and 18,  2013 Kurban Bayramı

On the first day of Şeker and Kurban religious holidays all shops and bazaars are closed. (The Şeker Bayramı and Kurban Bayramı are 3 days and 4 days long respectively)

Summer Hours

In the Aegean and Mediterranean regions of Turkey, government offices and many other establishments are closed in the afternoon during the summer months. The provincial governors fix these summer hours each year.

Mymerhaba's researcher would like to add an amusing note here. These religious holidays are not only, quite obviously spiritual and cultural celebrations but, most often, a good time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They are usually fairly long holidays covering six or seven days, since those three or four days are stretched out to cover the weekend they precede or follow. Check out this site or the tourism ads in your local newspapers to pick up on great deals for these sneaky holiday breaks!
