Traveling by Boat-ferry

Turkey is surrounded by three seas, which allow ships and yachts a good way to sail around.

The inner city transportation and the transportation between some settling areas on the coast of Marmara Sea and Istanbul are provided with the catamaran fleet and ferries of IDO - Istanbul Sea Bus (fast ferry) a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality . Moreover IDO has regular ferryboat service between Istanbul-Yalova and Istanbul-Bandırma. Unless lodos (a name given to south-west wind by Istanbulites) storm the sea busses sail in all weather conditions. The catamarans are more comfortable and faster than the ferries run by IDO, however they are more expensive. Those catamarans are also run by IDO.

Denizline, an establishment founded by a consortium composed of the members of Maritime Chamber and TURSAB (The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies) operates the former Turkish Maritime Lines ships between Istanbul and Izmir. The ship departs the city (Istanbul or Izmir) at 17:30 every two days and arrives the other city at 08:30 next morning.

Various car and passenger ferries operate between Çesme (the port west of Izmir), and Brindisi and Ancona in Italy.

Turkish Maritime Lines used to operate weekly ferry service along the Black Sea coast in summer, however since the ship operating functions of Turkish Maritime Lines is now ended, the Black Sea coast ferry no longer runs.

There are frequent ferries between Turkey and Aegean Islands in summer.
