Turkish Sweets

Untitled Document Lokum (Turkish Delight) and Baklava are the first names coming to mind when one mentions Turkish sweets. However Turkish cuisine is also very rich on sweets.

Akide şekeri, badem-fıstık ezmesi (marzipan), various puddings-muhallebi, sweets with syrup tulumba, lokma, helva with a variety of tastes, fruit desserts such as quince and pumpkin are among the main Turkish sweets.

Kaymak (thick cream) usually accompanies Turkish sweets. Kaymak is also indispensable part of long joyous breakfasts used as butter. It is very delicious but have quite high calorie!!!

Various kinds of lokum can be found in almost all pastry shops. Don't forget Ali Uzun is the first candy shop of Ankara. Baklava is identified with Hacıbaba. The most famous name at Kuru Baklava (dry baklava with less sugar) is Camuzoğlu and Akman is the most well known address of traditional Turkish desserts.

The worst thing about Turkish Sweets is that they cause you gain weight, if you are not sportive enough.

As we Turks say Afiyet olsun (Bon Appetit)

The list of shops at which you can find various Turkish tastes is given in our yellow pages
