While surfing on the net, I came across the web site of Dion Archibald, and had a pleasant surprise to find out paintings, drawings and miniatures... a collection titled "Turkish Works".
I am not an art critique therefore cannot talk about his work from an artistic point of view, however I can tell you that I've personally found the Turkish series very interesting and wanted to share it with you.
"My paintings evolve organically from life's everyday glances. Rather than trying to force my will on them, I give them total control." This is the artist's own statement. Born in Maitland NSW Australia, Dion visited Turkey for the first time in 1999, when he was 23. At this visit he discovered Istanbul and many places in the west coast. Dion gave total control to his paintings on Turkish environment at his third visit to Turkey in 2001.
I have chosen my favorite painting and post it to this page. But there are so many others…Mosques, Grand Bazaar, Cappadocia, people, mosaics… all had a chance to express themselves in Dion's work…
"My art is about a personal exploration of the subject and the materials used to create the work. Regardless of whether the subject is something as mundane as a toothbrush or as awe inspiring as the beauty of nature, it has to speak to me in some way." says Dion at his web site. Have a look at his work. I think you will also notice what he means…
